Bronx Bombers Make It 8 Straight

The sizzling Yankees began a 3-game home series with the Chicago White Sox last night. Rookie Jordan Montgomery made his 2nd major league appearance and start. He pitched 6 shutout innings, before tiring in the 7th. In total, he allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks, striking out 4.

He's 24. He might be a serious find. All those "prospects" we've been talking about since Cashman's fire sale, and this guy snuck under the radar.

Meanwhile, in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Matt Holliday crushed a 447-foot drive to left-center field, his 2nd home run of the season, driving in 2 runners ahead of him. The Yankees added 2 more in the inning. Aaron Judge socked another 400+ drive in the 5th, his 4th homer already, driving in another, to make it 7-0. After a few years of mediocre bats, the Yankees are the Bronx Bombers again.

Adam Warren finished the 7th, and pitched a scoreless 8th. Joe Girardi left him in for the 9th, and that could have been a mistake, as he ran into a little trouble. Aroldis Chapman had to be brought in to get the last 2 outs, and he got them.

Yankees 7, White Sox 4. WP: Montgomery (1-0). SV: Chapman (4). LP: Derek Holland (1-2). That's 8 straight after the 1-4 start, and tied for 1st place with the Baltimore Orioles, although we trail them by 1 game in the loss column, as they have 2 games in hand on us.

The series continues at 7:05 tonight. Luis Severino starts against Miguel Gonzalez.
